Garvin, Verna W.

Verna Walters Garvin, of Newark, Delaware, passed away on October 4, 2026. Born in 1943, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Walters of Milford and Ruth T. (Walters) Wilson of Ormond Beach, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Cansler of New Castle; her nephew, Barry Lee Supplee of Oxford; and her beloved husband and best friend, Edward Garvin.

Mrs. Garvin proudly achieved her early dream of becoming an airline stewardess and later built a long, successful career as a full-charge bookkeeper, handling payrolls and payroll taxes with skill and dedication. Her professional experience included work with Isaacson & Stolpher, CPAs; Fenstermacher; and Larry L. Davis, EA. She openly loved every job she held throughout her life.

She enjoyed traveling, especially to Hatteras, North Carolina—along with oil painting, crafts, and volunteering. She was a member of Newark Chapter #10, Order of the Eastern Star, and Caesar Rodney Chapter #8, Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Garvin is survived by her niece, Leslie Anne Cansler, and grandnephew, Dylan, of New Castle; her grandniece, Leanna McGonigal, of Oxford; as well as her great‑grandniece and several great‑grandnephews. She also leaves behind extended family and cousins in Alaska, Ohio, and Norway.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faithful Friends.
