It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Karl B. Hagenbuch Jr., age 86, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Bucky, as he was more commonly known, was born on April 23, 1940, to the late Karl B. and Rebecca Hagenbuch of Wilmington, Delaware. Sandwiched between his sisters, Joanne and Susan, Bucky graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Boatswain’s Mate Third Class.
Bucky devoted more than 30 years of his career to E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, where he worked as an IBM Accountant before retiring.
His greatest joy in life was his wife of 52 years, Sandra P. Hagenbuch, who preceded him in death in 2022. Bucky lovingly remembered Sandy and her ability to prepare his favorite meals.
He will be forever loved and remembered by his daughter, Jennifer Ferrara (Chris), and son, Jimmy (Sarah). He will be missed beyond words by his grandchildren, Victoria (Chris), Brandon (Hayley), Aubrey, Kaylee, and Grayson as well as his much-loved, expected great-grandson, Carter.
Bucky will also be dearly missed by his sister, Susan (Pete); brother-in-law, Bruce Pennington;sister-in-law, LynnBrock (Mike); and numerous nieces and nephews.
As family is not limited to blood, Bucky held his more than 50-year friendship with Ron and Sharon Penner especially close to his heart, considering them as dear as family.
May he finally rest in the loving embrace of Sandy, as we can imagine him saying, “Hasta mañana.”
A service in celebration of Karl’s life will be shared at a later date.
