Chapdelaine, Janice

Janice B. Chapdelaine, age 75, died at Gilchrist Hospice in Baltimore, Maryland, after an extended illness surrounded by her loving family.

Janice attended Immaculata High School in Manchester, New Hampshire and Mount Saint Mary College in Hooksett, New Hampshire. She earned her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and began her career in education with Baltimore City Public Schools. After a few years, she and her husband, Marc, moved to Wilmington, Delaware where she joined the faculty at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. After many years as a teacher and assistant principal, Janice became principal, a role she held with dedication and care.

Family was a cornerstone of Janice’s life. She enjoyed travelling to New Hampshire twice a year to visit her parents and siblings. Sundays, family time was a focus. Her precious granddaughters were a great joy to her. In her spare time Janice enjoyed cross-stitching, baking, and completing puzzles.

Janice was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Edward Biron, and her brother, Bruce Biron. She is survived by her husband of 53 years and high school sweetheart, Marc Chapdelaine, with whom she shared 61 years; her children, Sara Chapdelaine and Dave Chapdelaine (Andrea); her granddaughters, Avery and Rosie; her siblings, Barbara Thinnes (Robert), Susan Podawiltz (Thomas), and Paul Biron (Terri Claggett); and her sister-in-law, Denise Biron.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary School.
