Cephas M Greenidgeof Wilmington, DE went to sleep in Jesus at age 94 on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 with his family by his side.
Born in 1932 in Bridgetown, Barbados, he was the fifth son to Christopher and Marie Greenidge, becoming the 7th of 9 children.Following in his father’s footsteps, Cephas lived his life as a devoted family man, businessman and church elder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.He was known for his wisdom, warmth, deep bass voice and steady presence. His legacy of love for his family and commitment to his church will live on through the generations he nurtured and inspired.
During the summer of 1955 at Caribbean Union College in Trinadad, Cephas met the love of his life, Daphne King, that resulted in a 7-year courtship. They were united in marriage September 1962 in Brooklyn, NY with a few close family and friends. In the years that followed they had 2 children, Sandra and David, and opened their home to a third several years later, Aubrey, the youngest son of Daphne’s sister (Merril Prescod) who had passed away.
In 1969, Cephas and Daphne accepted accounting positions at Symphonic that moved from Brooklyn, NY to Lowell, MA. This allowed them to relocate to nearby Nashua, NH where they bought their first home.Ten years later their family moved to South Lancaster, MA to allow their children to easily attend Christian grade school, high school and later college by Atlantic Union College.Cephas later accepted a position as an auditor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and worked there until he retired. Once retired, he continued his love of numbers by providing tax services to family and friends.They lived in South Lancaster for 36 years before moving to Wilmington, DE in 2014 to be with their daughter and son-in-law to assist with Daphne’s care until she passed away in 2018.For the last 12 years Cephas has been surrounded by his daughter’s family, getting to see 2 of 3 grandsons married, and welcomed 4 great grandchildren. Cephas enjoyed bible study, gardening, walking, playing board games with his grand and great-grandchildren, and weekly family dinners.
Cephas is survived by his children: Sandra Caddell (David) and David Greenidge (Tanya Bouzy); Aubrey Prescod (Maria Isabel); grandchildren: David Caddell II, Stephen Caddell (Melissa), Matthew Caddell (Courtney), Rachel Bouzy: great grandchildren Tristan Caddell (9), Julian Caddell (8), Lilian Caddell (7), and Everly Caddell (1); his sister: Marie Eudene Lynton and brother: Earle Greenidge (Janice); and 24 nieces and nephews not including their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at, 11 am, at West Wilmington Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 3003 Millcreek Road, Wilmington, DE. A viewing will begin at 10am at the church. Burial will be held privately.
