Steven Harry Gove, age 73, of Wilmington, DE, died after a brief illness on July 5, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Steve earned his degree from Tufts University in 1974 and went on to become an accomplished chemical engineer with Hercules Incorporated and Ashland. During his 37-year career, his work took him around the world, where he was respected for his expertise and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Alice Gove née Smith, and his sister, Janice Diamond.
Steve is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Gove née Pond; his daughters, Elizabeth Lemon (Mark) of Vienna, Virginia, and Meredith Woods of Wilmington, Delaware; his grandchildren, Tessa Lemon and James Woods; his brother, Ronald Gove (Sandra); his niece and nephew, Carlisle and Cameron Pond; Matthew Gove; Sarah Holliday; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Steve will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, his love of Irish music, his enthusiasm for pub trivia, and his appreciation for sharing a nice cold beer with family and friends.
A visitation will be held Monday, July 27, 2026, from 11AM -12PM at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803, followed by a service in celebration of Steven’s life at 12 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Steve’s memory to the Sunday Breakfast Mission, 110 Poplar Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
