Sally (Zeller) grew up in Toledo, Ohio, where she graduated from De Vilbiss High School, attended the University of Toledo, and graduated from the Stautzenberger Business School as an engineering secretary. She married her high school sweetheart, James Ray Ernsberger, who died in 1993. Sally was predeceased by her son Mark (surviving spouse, Gundhild) and is survived by her sons Scott (JoAnne) and Eric (Linda). There are four grandchildren: Nina, Kyle, Trudi, and Aubrey.
Sally was a violinist and played with the Toledo Symphony for a short time. She was a church choral director in Indianapolis, Indiana; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Westlake Village, California. She also directed the Scarlet Ribbons Women’s Chorus in Wilmington, Delaware. She worked as a volunteer at A.I. duPont Children’s Hospital for ten years. She was involved in several little theater productions and was a member of Brandywiners’ Ltd. and sang with the Brandywiners’ Chorale.
She loved animals, especially dogs. She was artistic and enjoyed doing various types of needlework, many of which were her own designs. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where she sang in their choir.
A graveside service for Sally will be held at Lower Brandywine Cemetery, 101 Old Kennett Rd., Wilmington, DE 19807, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11 a.m.
