Reinhold P. Kuska, age 85, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, formerly of Claymont, Delaware, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, at the Maris Grove Senior Living Community.
Born in the former Yugoslavia, Reinhold, known to his friends as Ron, came to America in 1957, attended Bergen Tech High School in northern New Jersey, and served honorably and proudly in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate Second Class. Following his military service, Ron worked as a stationary engineer for several companies before becoming a power plant technology teacher at his high school alma mater. At night, he continued his education, earning a bachelor’s degree from Rutger’s University and a master’s degree from the University of Delaware. He also coached soccer and refereed matches in the evenings.
In 1969, he moved with his wife and young family from New Jersey to Delaware, taking a teaching position at a new vocational school—Delcastle Technical High School. Ron taught power plant technology from 1969 until 1986 when he became an assistant principal. He also coached the Delcastle Cougars soccer team for more than a decade. He retired from Delcastle Tech in 2000.
Ron had a passion for golf, soccer, skiing, history, and German folk dancing. He was an active member in the community, having served as President of the Claymont Lions Club, Vorplattler and Fahnentraeger of the Enzian Volktanzgruppe, President of the Delaware Saengerbund, soccer coach for the DSB Kickers, as a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, and as a member and volunteer of the Dupont Country Club.
Ron will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his contributions to education, and his community spirit. Above all, family was the most important thing in Ron’s life. After coming to America as a refugee of World War II, he achieved the American dream by working hard to create opportunities for his family to enjoy and be successful in life. He leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Hermine Kuska (née Wolf); his son, Dr. Gerhard Kuska and wife, Heike; his daughter, Romie Lutz and partner, Swain Fennimore; and his four grandchildren: Alexander Lutz, Emma Kuska, Michael Lutz, and Leni Kuska.
Ron will be buried in a private military ceremony at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Information about a celebration of life for the members of the community will be announced at a later date.
