Ellen R. Albertson, 83 of Wilmington, DE died at her home on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
She was born and raised in Chester, PA and was the daughter of the late Ellen (Roney) and Charles Larkin. Ellen graduated from The School of the Holy Child in Sharon Hill, PA. She then attended Gwynedd Mercy College, graduating with a nursing degree. Growing up and throughout her life, Ellen had a loving extended family.
Ellen met Richard Albertson and they were married in 1964. They lived in Dundalk, MD where Richard was stationed at Fort Holabird before moving to Media, PA. They moved to their forever home in Wilmington, DE in 1968 where they were also active members of The Church of the Holy Child.
Ellen started her career as a Registered Nurse at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital (as it was known at that time), then working at the Developmental Pre-School in Wilmington, DE. She then transitioned to working at nursing homes in northern Delaware and retired from Cokesbury Village, Hockessin in 2013. She cared for so many patients over the years, working hard to positively affect their lives and treating them with dignity and respect. She was an excellent and dedicated nurse.
Ellen was a wonderful wife and supportive mother. She made Christmas and holidays an amazing and unforgettable time. Along with her husband, she made a happy home enjoying summers at the pool and beach, and having fun with friends and neighbors. Ellen was always very much happily involved in her daughters’ and granddaughters’ lives. She loved her adorable twin granddaughters beyond measure, and was so thrilled to watch all of their sports and activities. She took wonderful care of her husband of 60 years, Richard E. Albertson who died in 2024. She was a good person who was generous and kind.
Ellen is survived by her loving daughters Charlene Albertson and Cathleen Albertson Deutsch (John); her granddaughters Avery and Eileen. She was also preceded in death by aunts and cousins whom she loved.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 10:00-10:45 am at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Burial will follow at St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, 430 Valleybrook Rd. Glen Mills, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
