Peacock, Joan

Joan Donovan Peacock, 92, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on June 6, 2026. Born and raised in Wilmington, Joan was a lifelong Delawarean whose warmth, work ethic, and love of people touched everyone she met.

Joan graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1951. She built a long and varied career defined by her love of staying busy and connecting with others. She retired from Avon Products in 1995, where she served as Manager of the Returns Goods Department. Ever restless in retirement, she went on to serve as a hostess at the beloved Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater until its closing in 2007. She then joined Delaware Park, where she worked coat check during the winter months and served as hostess of the Winner’s Circle during the summer racing season.

More than her titles, Joan was known for her genuine enjoyment of work, her gift for meeting new people, and her devotion to nurturing lasting friendships.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Peacock (1998); her sister, Marion Gall; her grandson, Jeffery D. Peacock Jr. (2022); and her brother, Richard Bock.

Joan is survived by her children: daughter Deborah Murray (James) of Newark, DE; son William Griffith of Townsend, DE; daughter Kimberly Drake (R. Fred Jr.) of Middletown, DE; and son Jeffery D. Peacock of Townsend, DE. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two sisters: Joyce Nute of Delaware and Alice Peterson of Florida.

A funeral service for Joan will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15th at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808). Friends may call beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 411 Continental Drive, Suite 407, Newark, DE 19713.
