Elizabeth “Betty” Cunningham (Williamson), age 91, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026.
Betty was a person who always knew what she wanted. At age 23 she and her husband Adam left their hometown of Kilmarnock, Scotland and settled in Wilmington, Delaware. Betty was an entrepreneur who opened a childcare center so she could help support her family and be with her daughter. She later worked for Bank of Delaware as a travel agent before becoming a national manager with Rosenbluth Travel. When she retired, she was managing ten personal travel offices from Delaware to California. Over the course of her career, Betty was a vocal advocate for equal pay, which made an impact on those around her and inspired women in her family to advocate for themselves as well. She loved to be with friends, and she was an avid dancer.
She never stayed away from Scotland for too long, returning year after year to be with family and friends. Her decision to become a travel agent ensured she could take those trips and others, and she, Adam, and Lynn explored the globe together. As she approached retirement, she and Adam embarked on another adventure closer to home. They built their dream vacation home in Bethany Beach. For over twenty years, Adam and Betty spent summers surrounded by family and friends who joined them for drinks on the deck, hot tea on the beach, and leisurely strolls through the shelves at the South Coastal Library. They loved to host family from Scotland – making memories in Florida, on the Chesapeake, and at the beach.
In her later years, she was never happier than when she was surrounded by her great-grandchildren who were lucky to know her and to love her. Betty’s family is immensely grateful to the staff, doctors, and nurses at Maris Grove’s Rose Court, who cared for Betty and kept her strong even as her memory faltered. Their compassion and humor brightened Betty’s days and softened the journey for her family.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Adam Cunningham, her sisters Marion Lennon and Jeanette Devlin, and her beloved brother John Williamson. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Evans (Joe); her granddaughters, Kyle Gay (Olin) and Elizabeth Rattray (Chris); her niece Carey-Lynne Haggerty (James) of Melbourne, Australia; and her three great-grandchildren Ellen Gay, Alice Gay, and Evan Rattray: and her great-nephew, Christopher Haggerty.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be announced and held at a later date.
