James “Jim” F. Burrows, Jr., age 72 of Wilmington, DE passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
He was born and raised in Wilmington, DE and was the son of the late Catherine C. (Marro) and James F. Burrows, Sr. Jim graduated from Conrad High in 1971.
He had a lifelong career, 40 years, with the CSX Railroad. He was a carpenter and retired in 2011. One of Jim’s passions was coaching. He coached basketball and baseball. Jim coached at St. Elizabeth High School, Salesianum School, Conrad School of the Sciences, Newark Charter Middle School and many little leagues throughout the years.
His most cherished passions were his grandchildren, especially watching them at their sporting events and other activities. He was an avid fan of horse racing, the Phillies and the Eagles**.** If he was not watching sports, you could find him enjoying the comfort of his backyard.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elaine (Kit) Burrows: three children, Jim Burrows III, Michelle Burrows and John Burrows (Jessica) and five grandchildren, Gillian, Alex, Maria, David and Anna. Jim was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amanda and his twin brother, Dean Burrows.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 21, from 9:30 to 11:45 am at St. Elizabeth Church, 809 S Broom St, Wilmington, DE 19805. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 12 noon. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
