Marion D. Howell, age 101, of Claymont, DE went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 9, 2026.
She was born in Clayton, NJ and raised in Alloway, NJ on the Cool Run Farm. Marion was the daughter of the late Viola (Adams) and William Duble where she was the middle child of seven girls. Marion graduated from Woodstown High School in 1942. After high school, she worked for the Dupont Company in Pennsville, NJ for the war effort during WWII.
Then in 1949, Marion graduated from the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing.
For over 44 years she worked in the local hospitals here in Delaware where she was a floor nurse or head nurse of the ICU units. Marion held the title of President of the Delaware Nurses Association for two years.
While in nursing school, Marion met the love of her life, John A. Howell, Jr., who passed way in 1994.
Marion was a tutor for reading assistance at Hanby Elementary School for 19 years. Other than the love she gave her family, her faith led her through chapters of her life. She played the piano and organ at the former Claymont Bible Baptist Tabernacle. She later became a very active member of Bethel Baptist Church since 1977.
Marion is survived by her two children, John “Jack” A. Howell III (Shelia) and Suzanne Howell and four grandchildren, Ryan Tallman (Mary), Matthew Howell (Andrea), Brandon Howell and Michelle Thompson (Brad).
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, from 10-11am at Bethel Baptist Church, 1217 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE where a memorial service will follow at 11am. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1217 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
