Susan B. Culley, age 93, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at Wilmington Hospital.
Susan graduated from Wilmington High School in 1949 before earning her nursing degree and beginning a lifelong calling of caring for others. After raising her five children, she returned to nursing in the 1970s as a registered nurse and continued working well into her 70s. She concluded her distinguished career at Cokesbury Village. Even after retirement, Susan continued serving others as a paid visitor to elderly individuals whose families lived too far away to visit often. Nursing and caring for others were truly the work and passion of her life.
She enjoyed several peaceful years of retirement before dementia gradually stole many of her cherished memories. Throughout her life, she was sustained by a deep and abiding faith in her Lord and Savior. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church and regularly participated in Walk to Emmaus retreats. Susan lived a truly full life, centered on faith, family, and compassion for others.
Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, George F. Culley Jr.
She is survived by her brothers, Curtis and Louis; her son David Culley and his wife, Icsun; her son Mark and his wife, TK; her daughter Debbie Kane and her husband, Mike; her daughter Donna Niblett; and her daughter Christine Yozgatlioglu and her husband, Kim. She was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 10 AM to 11 AM. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. A service in celebration of Susan’s life will begin at 11 AM. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Susan’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
