Jay E. Sydnor, 65, of Bear, Delaware (formerly of Christiana, DE) passed away March 18th, 2026 in Elkton, Maryland.
Jay graduated from Christiana Highschool in 1979 and earned his associates degree from Delaware Technical Community College in 1982. He went on to be come a valuable member of the team at Northrop-Grumman (Formerly ATK), serving as a senior lab technician.
Outside of work, Jay loved bowling and served as the director of the WBA for a time. He also traveled extensively and attended Renaissance Faire’s for over 20 years with his wife and his friends, hitting faire’s in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Texas. Jay was quite the history buff.
Jay is predeceased by his parents: Alice (Nee Pyle) and Edwin Sydnor. His brother: William. His in-laws: Edwina (Nee Roche) Dempsey and Herbert W. Dempsey Jr., and his brother-in-law, James Edward Dempsey.
He is survived by his wife Ruthan D. (Nee Dempsey) Sydnor and The Dudes, Cocoa, Sparkle, Willow and Callie. He is survived by his brothers, David Sydnor (Linda) of Middletown, and Robert Sydnor (Deb) of Middletown. His niece, Jessica, and his nephews, Jason Sydnor (Debbie) of Middletown and Keith (Meghan) of Middletown, Mark Sydnor of Smyrna, Josh Sydnor of Westminister, DE, Shawn Sydnor (Brittany) of Phoenix, MD, Francis Glynn (Jessie) of Middletown, and James Dempsey Jr.. He is survived by many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A service for Jay will be held at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE, 19808) on March 28th at 1030 AM. Friends and Family may begin calling at 830 AM. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in Jay’s memory to Agnew Veterinary Hospital.
