James F. Purdy, age 77, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born to the late James R. Purdy (Angie) and Frances Kelly, James lived a life defined by dedication to his family, his work, and those he loved most. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl Purdy, sharing 56 years of marriage built on love, loyalty, and unwavering partnership.
He was a devoted father to his daughters and son-in-law, Sherie Winters and Lisa Snyder (Tony), and a proud grandfather to Anthony, William, Ryan, Corey, Jazmine, and Teanna, as well as a great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, especially teaching them how to fish and sharing his love of the outdoors. He is also survived by his brothers, Kevin Purdy (Tina) and Patrick Purdy. He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise.
James worked as a tradesman for over 45 years, earning the respect of all who knew him through his strong work ethic and quiet strength. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and spending time outdoors, but his greatest joy was being with his family.
James will be remembered for his love, strength, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will live on through the family he loved so deeply.
A private memorial will be held by the family.
