Waslyn, Kathleen "Cassie"

Cassie (Kathleen) “Mimi” Wolfe Waslyn was born on March 25, 1952, of Claymont and Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of Charles and Marion (Jewett)Wolfe, died peacefully in her sleep on February 12th. She graduated from Holy Rosary School and Claymont High School.

She began her career in X-ray technology at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in 1970. Upon graduation, she joined Christiana Care, where she built a remarkable 42-year career. For many years, she drove the mammography van throughout Delaware and neighboring states, helping bring critical screening services directly to communities in need. When the mobile program was discontinued, she returned to Christiana Care, where she continued serving patients until her retirement in 2014. Over four decades, she took countless films and mentored generations of X-ray techs, leaving a lasting mark on both patients and colleagues.

Cassie loved people—especially the Claymont community. She had a gift for turning strangers into friends and never missed an opportunity to welcome someone into her life. Deeply committed to her community, she involved herself wherever she could make a difference. While her children attended Darley Road Elementary School, she served as President of the PTA, dedicating her time and energy to supporting students, teachers, and families. She later remained actively involved at Concord High School, enthusiastically participating in homecoming floats, after-prom committees, and any opportunity to volunteer her time. Her dedication to lifelong friendships and school spirit also led her to serve as the current treasurer for the Claymont High School Class of `70 reunion committee.

She loved her crafts. From sewing scrubs for co-workers, to decorating sports team giveaways, she poured her creativity into everything she touched. She designed and created every Halloween costume her family ever wore and was always the first to volunteer for any last-minute costume alterations. Her creativity, generosity, and willingness to help made even the smallest occasions feel special.

Her home was always open and everyone was always welcome. She was the original “Kool-Aid” mom. She welcomed a foreign exchange student into her family and provided a home to many others who needed a place to stay. Her bedrooms were rarely empty, and her table always had room for one more.

For the last decade, her grandchildren all attended Concord High School where she became one of the school’s most devoted fans. She attended every sporting event she could, cheering enthusiastically and forming friendships in the bleachers that extended far beyond a single season or team. If “Concord” was in the title, there was a good chance of finding her there. At games, she loved reminiscing about years past, sharing stories, listening intently, and laughing with those around her.

Cassie had a vibrant, larger-than-life personality. Her goal in every conversation was simple: to entertain the person on the other end and leave them smiling. She had a storyteller’s flair and, on occasion, might embellish a detail or two for effect—but always in the spirit of laughter and connection. She listened closely, absorbed the details of people’s lives, and carried their stories with her. She spoke the way she lived—boldly, freely, and without hesitation—embracing life with humor, heart, and an infectious sense of joy that made ordinary moments memorable.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Jack Waslyn; her children, Nicole Tobin (Craig Tobin) and Andy Waslyn (Kelly Waslyn); and her five cherished grandchildren who she loved to the moon and back, Rylee, Rachel, Finn, Liam, and Connor. She is also survived by her sisters, Shelly Wolfe (Rob Fromuth) and Nancy Wolfe, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday February 20 from 2-4 pm with a celebration service at 4pm. at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike Wilmington, 19803. Burial will be private.
