Danny G. Kilpatrick of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026 of complications from surgery. He was reluctant to leave this world, having received a lung transplant in 2019, and appreciated every extra day.
Danny was born March 22, 1947 in San Jose, California. He grew up on Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, and Kentucky. Danny graduated with honors in chemical engineering from Tulane University in 1969. His career of 36 years was spent as a project manager, at DuPont, including locations in Texas, Georgia, Korea, and Singapore.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Diane Kilpatrick, her son Bryan Conlin (Paula) and was Pop Pop to beloved grandchildren Jale and Gianna.
Danny was a life-long learner whose curiosity led him to many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed camping and fishing. He collected antiques, read history and fiction, practiced woodworking, ran marathons, and climbed mountains. When he fired up the grill, you were in for a treat. He could solve puzzles and fix any mechanical device.
In his retirement, Danny pursued extensive genealogy research. He satisfied the question of his namesake Irish heritage, and even traced his ancestry to Mayflower passenger and Plymouth settler William Brewster..
Danny was predeceased in death by his father, Gene Kilpatrick, and his mother Anne Kilpatrick, (nee Cross). Other survivors are his daughters, Denise Kilpatrick of Atlanta, Danielle Paprocki (Craig) of Boise, Idaho and his sister, Debbie Kilpatrick of Las Vegas.
