Salter, John V.

John Victor Salter, age 73, of Newark, Delaware, passed away on February 6, 2026, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Born to the late Victor M. and Ruth R. Salter, John was formerly of Red Bank, New Jersey. He was a graduate of Thomas McKean High School and later attended the United States Naval Academy.

John was employed as a Signal Technician with DelDOT. He was known for his strong work ethic and technical skill.

An avid Navy athletics fan, John especially enjoyed sailing his Tully on the Chesapeake Bay. He was a voracious reader, loved walking, and cherished time spent with his beloved black Labradors.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his four-legged daughter, Maddie; his brother, Michael J. Salter; his sister, Catherine S. Williams (Marvin); nieces Elizabeth Salter (Erik) and Margaret Salter; nephews Col. Jeffrey Wills (Kendall) and Eric Wills; and his great-nieces and great-nephews Rian Salter, Teagan Wills, Chase Maxwell, Jameson Wills, and Bennett Wills.

A gathering will be held on February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, Delaware. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
