Hill, Margaret M.

Margaret Mabel “Peg” Hill, 96, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on January 11, 2026, in Newark, Delaware.

A devoted wife, beloved aunt, and cherished friend to many, Peg lived a life marked by faith, compassion and joyful service. Born on June 1, 1929, in Collingswood, New Jersey, Peg was the daughter of Benson and Mabel Barron. She grew up in Collingswood and attended local schools. Her academic journey culminated at Bob Jones University, where she earned a degree in early elementary education, a fitting choice for someone whose heart was always drawn to children.

Peg’s love for children extended far beyond the classroom. Over the years, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was also involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Her deep Christian faith shaped every aspect of her life and inspired her desire to share the message of Jesus with young hearts. As a member of Brandywine Valley Church in Delaware and previously of Spruce Head Community Church in Maine, Peg found joy and purpose in ministry.

For 70 years, Peg shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Arthur Hill. Together they built a life rooted in deep faith and mutual support. Wherever Art’s work in education took him, Peg willingly followed, always ready to make a new home filled with warmth and hospitality. Their coastal retreat in Maine became a haven not only for themselves but also for friends, Art’s colleagues and missionaries.

Peg had an enduring love for learning and reading. She was known for her thoughtful hand-knit gifts for newborns among family and friends, each stitch a testament to her care. She also enjoyed sewing and cross-stitching, hobbies that reflected both her creativity and patience. Her circle of friendship was wide; she took genuine interest in others’ lives and faithfully prayed for those she cared about. Her wit made her delightful company, while her steadfast faith made her a source of strength to many.

Among Peg’s favorite companions over the years were several beloved dogs; Madchen the Boxer; Charlie, the daily biscuit visitor at Spruce Head; Penny, who dined like royalty with chicken broth poured over her meals; and Tucker, the Saint Bernard who roamed freely through their Delaware home when his family visited.

Peg’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, gentle kindness, joyful hospitality and deep devotion to those around her. May the Lord bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

Peg is survived by her loving husband Arthur Hill; nieces Nancy (John) Breneman, Patricia (Steve) Mosely, Diane Hirt; as well as numerous grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews who were blessed by her presence in their lives.

She was predeceased by her parents, Benson and Mabel Barron; sisters Jane (Oscar) Hirt and Marion (Wills) Burrowes, and nephew Herb Hirt.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Brandywine Valley Church, 7 Mount Lebanon Rd., Wilmington. Visitation begins at 10:00 am., followed by the service at 11:00. A luncheon will be served at noon.

Memorials may be sent in Peg’s honor to either Brandywine Valley Church in Wilmington or Spruce Head Community Church, PO Box 18, Spruce Head, ME.
