Tshudy, June J.

June J. Tshudy, age 98, of Claymont, DE, died Tuesday, January 7, at Accent Hospice.

June was born in Richmond, VA. As an infant she was sent north by her brave birth mother to be raised by her aunt in Chester, PA. At the age of 14 she quit school in order to work to help support her PA family. During WWII she lied about her age of 16 and started working at the Chester shipyard. She was now a Rosie the Riveter. On a blind date she met her beloved husband, Harry Tshudy, a Navy gunner. Their relationship blossomed, they married. June continued working. She worked in a textile factory, then retail. At the age of 42 she went back to school and got her GED so she could then work for the State of DE until her retirement. June loved to host holiday parties, garden, and helped a local hospital and church with fundraising events. June passed on the day that would have been Harry and June’s 80th anniversary.

June will be missed by daughters, Joyce Ackerman, and her husband Fritz of North Carolina; Linda Russell and her husband Bill of Claymont; Vince Alexander; grandchildren, Michael Scheel and his wife Mary; Sara Russell and her husband Jessie Hamm; Ethan Russell and his significant other Darlene Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Meredith and Evan Scheel.

Interment will be private.

The family is grateful for the excellent care and love of so many at Rockland Place, Vitas Hospice and Accent Hospice and asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider a contribution to Shriners Hospital for Children, ATTN Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
