Toner, James E., 3rd

James E. Toner, 3rd, age 89 of Wilmington, De passed away at home on Sunday, January 4, 2026.

He was born and raised in Wilmington and was the son of the late Abina (O’Riordan) and James E. Toner, Jr. James graduated from PS Dupont High School in 1955. After high school he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Cold War.

In 1959, James started his 40-year career with NCR, a computer and ATM Technology industry. He retired in 2000 as a field engineer.

He was a member of the American Legion, Joseph B. Stahl Memorial Post #30 and a former member of St. Mary Magdalen Church. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and collecting automobiles. James was a member of the First State Corvair Club.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeannette A. Toner; four children, Daniel, Mark, Michele (Jason Graham) and Jacqueline (Anthony Mona); a grandson, Sean; a sister, Elizabeth Ennis (Walter) and many nieces and nephews. James is also preceded in death by his siblings, Theresa Jones (Bob). Margaret Seramone (Joseph), Nora Banning (Harvey) and Jerome Toner (Pat). The family would also like to include their two exchange students, Klaus Engelbreth (deceased 2022) from Denmark and Charlie Wedell from Sweden.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 12 from 10-11 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Rd, Wilmington, DE where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am. Burial will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to your favorite charity.
