Paul M. Delpizzo, age 92, died at home surrounded by his family on December 31, 2025.
Paul graduated from Wilmington High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Italy during the Korean War. He made his career as a bricklayer, retiring at the age of 62, and was a 73-year member of Local #1, the Bricklayers Union.
Paul was a past president of the 351st Tank Trust Company, his Army reunion group, which he faithfully attended every year. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion.
Paul enjoyed outdoor pursuits such as hunting and fishing, spending quiet moments in his garden, and attending horse races, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Paul was predeceased by his brother, Albert. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis; his son, Gary Schaffer (Pam); his daughter, Wendi Schaffer-Coupe (John); his granddaughters, Leighann Avery (Johnnie) and Melissa Carter (Joe); his great-grandson, Jayce; sisters Rose Grello, Ann DiNicola and Doris Limina; many nieces and nephews; and cousins.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, 901 E. Newport Gap Pike, Newport, DE 19804, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will take place privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
