Rawlins, Kathleen Talley

Kathleen Talley Rawlins, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 20, 2025. Born and raised in Talleyville, Kathleen was the daughter of Francis B. and Ada Hill Talley. She and her sisters proudly referred to themselves as the “Talley girls,” a bond that remained special throughout their lives.

Kathleen attended A.I. duPont High School, where she met the love of her life, Alfred Rawlins, Jr. They were married for 67 wonderful years. Together, Kathleen and Al raised four children: Jay Rawlins (Betsy), Lynn Brownmiller (Paul), Debbie Kelly (Ed), and Judy Kelly (Tom). She was a devoted grandmother to 12 grandchildren, a proud great-grandmother to 21 great-grandchildren, and a delighted great-great-grandmother to two great-great-grandsons.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Al; her siblings Peg, Beverly, and Jim; and three great-grandsons.

After earning her GED, Kathleen briefly attended the University of Delaware. She was an active member of Stanton Methodist Church, where she organized a women’s club that included visits to Farnhurst, entertaining residents with cake, punch, and music. After later becoming a member of Mount Lebanon Church, she continued her outreach efforts with the same enthusiasm and compassion.

Kathleen worked at Joan Roberts, Kids Closet, and later at Kirkwood Fitness Club. She loved every job she held, especially her time at the fitness center, where she worked out most days—sometimes even twice a day. An avid walker, Kathleen could often be found with her beloved dog, Buddy, at Bellevue Park, Bonsall Park, or along the trails of the Brandywine Creek. She also enjoyed bowling and spending time in Rehoboth Bay, where she loved crabbing, boating, attending boardwalk concerts, making friends, and entertaining family and guests. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Gilpin Hall for the exceptional care Kathleen received over the last two years. Their kindness, compassion, friendliness, and expertise meant so much to her and her family.

The Rawlins family invites you to join them in celebrating Kathleen’s life on January 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 4727 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathleen’s memory to Sean’s House, 136 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
