Meixell, Dennis L. Sr. (“Denny”)

Dennis L. Meixell Sr. (“Denny”), 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 18, 2025 at AccentCare Hospice in Wilmington, Delaware.

Born and raised in Wilmington, Denny spent his life rooted in Delaware, where he later raised his family in Bear. He was proud of his hometown and the life he built there, surrounded by family, friends, and a strong sense of community.

Denny served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a letter carrier for 44 years. During that time, he also served as a shop steward and Vice President of Branch 191 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, roles that reflected his fairness, integrity, and willingness to stand up for others. After retiring from the Postal Service, Denny continued working as a shuttle driver for Delaware Express, enjoying the routine and the people he met along the way.

A graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Denny later earned an associate’s degree in business from Goldey-Beacom College. He gave back to his community, volunteering his time as a Canal Little League coach and as a Eucharistic minister at his church. While he was proud of his education and service, nothing meant more to him than his children and their families.

He especially loved family get-togethers and time spent with the people closest to him. An avid sports fan, Denny rarely missed following his favorite teams, especially the Phillies and the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles. He cherished traditions like cracking crabs at Harris’ and annual family beach trips to Fenwick Island. An early riser, he was known for starting his mornings with a cup of coffee and the sports page—a simple routine that suited him perfectly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Alice Meixell, his brothers, Daniel and Michael Meixell, and his beloved dog, Thumper.

Denny is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 56 years, Ann; his daughter, Tricia (Tim); his sons, Dennis Jr., (Debra) and Keith (Michele); his cherished grandchildren, Nathaniel, Anna, Lauren, and Benjamin; and his many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, December 28, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington DE, and Monday morning Dec 29th 10 – 10:45 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM also on the 29th. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE.
