Mariann Fox Wolskee grew up in the Richardson Park community, where she attended Richardson Park School before graduating and moving on to Conrad High School, Class of 1966. A gifted twirler, Mariann was a proud member of the Conrad Band and served as Head Majorette in her senior year. Her love of twirling continued into adulthood, highlighted by her appearance in the 1985 St. Patrick’s Parade in Dublin, Ireland—where her performance earned her a photograph on the front page of Irish newspapers.
Mariann married at the age of twenty and became the devoted mother of two sons, Bill and Bryan, who meant the world to her. In 1977 she met the love of her life, Ron Wolskee, and the two were married in the spring of 1978. Ron and Mariann shared forty-seven years of marriage anchored by their unwavering partnership, affection for each other, and family they created. Mariann, Ron, Bill, Bryan, and Jason (Ron’s son) navigated life which started as a stepfamily but morphed into an unbreakable bond.
Professionally, Mariann spent many years with the DuPont Company before continuing her education at Delaware Technical Community College, Springfield College, and Widener University. She earned a master’s degree in social work, was a member of the adjunct faculty at Springfield College in Wilmington Delaware and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Her career included work at several agencies, and she eventually became the Clinical Director of Compassionate Care Hospice Service in Sussex County, Delaware. Mariann also dedicated many years to private mental health practice, providing compassionate support to individuals and families.
Mariann found joy in line dancing with Kim, April & Cassie, exercising, relaxing by the pool, and spending time at West Bay Park and at the family’s Hollywood Beach home in Maryland. Her life was filled with movement, laughter, service, and the love of family and friends.
Mariann is preceded in death by her mother Jean Fox (Mom Mom Fox) and father Jimmy Fox (Grandad). In addition to her beloved husband and sons, Mariann is survived by her brother George Fox, niece Kelly, and nephew Doug; grandchildren; Brittany, Austin, Erin, Dylan, Corey, Sunni, and Peter each of whom she adored deeply. She also leaves behind her two great-grandchildren, Dallas and Rory, who brought her endless joy. Known affectionately as Grandmom /GramGram,” she was an extraordinary grandmother and took immense pride in her family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 26 from 10:00 - 11:30 am immediately followed by a memorial service at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, 19808. Burial will be private.
Mariann passed away on Thursday November twentieth at the Christiana Care Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Compassionate Care Hospice Service of Sussex County, DE.
