Boulanger, James "Jimmy"

James “Jimmy” Boulanger, age 89, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jimmy was devoted to his family, his work, and his community; his kindness, and dry humor touched everyone who knew him.

As a boy he built his own car and competed in the Delaware Pushmobile Derby for 5 years. Upon graduation from Mt. Pleasant, he began working at Graver Tank as a welder, but he soon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga. He sailed overseas three times, and even gave a celebrity guest appearance as honor guard at the baptism of Crown Prince Albert of Monaco.

After an honorable discharge from the USMC he went to IBM in Poughkeepsie NY to learn the fledgling science of computers. He went on to attend Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) where he received his BS degree in Business while teaching and as Director of their computer center, also teaching at Delaware County Community College. His working career ended after 19 years at the State of Delaware.

In 1998 Jim planned the first annual reunion for people who grew up in Bellefonte, Holly Oak and Claymont that continued for eleven years. He was a member of the Claymont ROMEO’s and the Thursday morning breakfast group. He loved going out to breakfast, lunch and Happy Hours with friends.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Doris, children Holly and Jeffrey (Linda), grandchildren Miranda and Colleen, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by parents Neil & Pauline, sister Barbara and brothers William & John.

A service will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Wednesday November 26, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with viewing at 10 A.M. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Jimmy’s life. Interment at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots. https://www.toysfortots.org/
