On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Lita S. Sohn, a woman of strength, courage, tenacity and intelligence, passed peacefully at the age of 84, after a hard-fought battle with lymphoma, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Wilmington DE.
Born in Queens, NY and raised on Long Island, NY, Lita was the daughter of the late Regina (Strauss) and Norman Lifschitz.
Lita started her career in the early 1960’s as an entrepreneur, opening and owning multiple upscale women’s clothing stores in Philadelphia, PA. In 1976, she moved to Staten Island, NY, and continued in the fashion industry owning several stores in New York and New Jersey with her late husband, Robert Jacobowitz.
After many successful years of business ownership, Lita took her experience and joined the US Navy Exchange (NEXCOM) where she rose to senior management. Her work for the Exchange took her from Staten Island to Yokosuka, Japan, where she oversaw merchandising in the Pacific Rim and Europe. A promotion brought her back to the States and an assignment in Virginia Beach, VA, where she lived for ten years. In 2010, Lita and her husband retired to Wilmington, DE, to live near family.
Lita’s love of life was evidenced by her enjoyment of the Metropolitan Opera, the theater, playing tennis and working out at the gym. But her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her granddaughter, Hannah O’Dwyer.
Lita’s husband of 41 years, Robert Jacobowitz, died in 2017. She is survived by her children, Cindy O’Dwyer (Jack Graham) and Paul Sohn; her sister, Betty Carney; her step-daughters, Lisa Jacobowitz (Marc Teatum) and Andrea Krisky (Joe Krisky) and her grandchildren, Hannah, Sophia, Athena (Sky) and Jake (Daniel).
Services and burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Fox Chase Cancer Center- Philadelphia, PA, www.foxchase.org/giving or Hope Lodge, https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/hopelodgephiladelphia/donate
