Age 74, of Wilmington, Delaware, formerly of Greenwood, South Carolina, passed away on October 15, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.
Sandy was a 1969 graduate of Alexis I. duPont High School and earned her degree from Clemson University in 1973. She dedicated over 27 years of service to the Delaware Division of Social Services.
A longtime and devoted member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, Sandy shared her many gifts with the congregation as Clerk of Session, Deacon, Elder, Stephen Minister, Youth Advisor, Director of the Children’s Choir, and member of the Chancel Choir. She also sang with Delaware Choral Arts, where her love of music continued to shine.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche G. and T. Lee Charles; her sister, Deborah E. Charles; and her brother, Kenneth L. Charles. She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Joseph J. Sarjeant; daughters, Elizabeth (Liz) Salter (Erik Gropp) and Margaret (Meg) Salter; and grandsons, Rian M. Salter and Chase R. Maxwell.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Gift of Life.
