Margaret “Peg” Livingston Smoots, aged 94, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Maris Grove on October 13th, 2025. She was a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother.
Peg was the only child of Benjamin Livingston and Ruth Wardle Livingston. Raised in Ithaca, New York, she attended Cornell University, where she earned her degree in early childhood education and was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority, valuing the enduring friendships she made there.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with friends and family along the East Coast and internationally. Peg had a deep appreciation for the beach, generously sharing her homes in Bethany Beach, Delaware, and Sarasota, Florida with loved ones.
A lifelong member of Brandywine Valley Church in Wilmington, Delaware, Peg worshipped there for more than forty years, actively participating in the church choir. Her passion for singing continued during her residency at Maris Grove, where she inspired joy and laughter among those around her.
Peg will be fondly remembered for her dedication to her husband and for creating warm, welcoming homes in each of the fourteen residences they shared over the years.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, John Pfeiffer Smoots Jr.; her four children: John Smoots (Joanne Mallery), Susan (Susie) Stewart (Jay Stewart), James (Jimmy) Smoots (Karen Smoots), and Jeffrey Smoots; her six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A visitation will begin at 10:30 am on Monday, November 3, 2025 at Brandywine Valley Church at 7 Mount Lebanon Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:30 am and fellowship will continue after the service in Fellowship Hall. The burial will be private.
