Butler, Geraldine

Geraldine T. Butler, of Wilmington, DE, died peacefully on October 4, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA she lived a life marked by compassion, intellect, and dedication to family, education, and community. She married the love of her life, Leslie R. Butler, on August 8, 1981, and together they built a life centered on kindness, humor, and shared purpose.

A lifelong learner, Geraldine earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Rowan University in 1992 and a Master’s Degree from Widener University in 1995. Her professional life began in business, where she rose to Project Management Director at Manufacturers Hanover Financial Services, overseeing company-wide initiatives and large-scale projects with exceptional skill and leadership. Later, she found her true calling in education, sharing her love of mathematics and mentoring generations of students and teachers. She served in leadership roles with the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey (AMTNJ) and contributed to numerous professional panels, workshops, and conferences dedicated to improving math education throughout the state.

Geraldine’s warmth and wit touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by the Tepper family—including aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews Michael, Barbara, Missy, Jenny, Mike, Nick, and Jack—and by the Butler family, including Chuck, Lynda, Kirk, Christina, and Andy. Her circle of love extended far beyond her relatives to include countless friends, students, and colleagues who were inspired by her generous spirit and unwavering support.

A celebration of Geraldine’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22nd at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church (5320 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808).
