Costello, Amy Welsh

Amy Welsh Costello, age 64, of Wilmington, DE, died with loved ones by her side, on October 6, 2025, after a short illness

Amy was born in El Paso, Texas. Though her time in Texas was not long, Amy always told family that her Texas birth certificate gave her the right to wear a cowboy hat and boots anytime of her choosing.

Amy is the daughter of Robert L. Welsh and the late Cathleen Marie Goelbel. Amy is a 1978 graduate of St. Andrews School, Middletown, DE. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Delaware and pursued a career as a technical writer. Once her children were born, she dedicated her time to raising them and continued with her grandson. Amy had many interests where she brought her creative and artistic talents, which include photography, cooking, and meticulous travel planning. Her favorite pastime was the time she spent at the family beach home in Lavallette, New Jersey, which she called “my happy place.” While there she spent countless hours walking the beach collecting “beach glass.” Her finds included numerous arrowheads, which officials from the New Jersey State Museum dated to as old as 5,000 B.C.

Amy is survived by her husband Richard Costello, her daughter Julie and son Peter, her grandson Paul Ranalli, her father Robert, sisters Elizabeth Moran and Carolyn Welsh, and her brother Michael Welsh.
