Evelyn A. Ware, age 96, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on the evening of September 21, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William J. Ware (Bill); her son, David; and her four brothers, Foster, Bill, Gene, and Jimmy, each of whom watched over her in their own way. Evelyn Ann Ware was born in Chester, PA, to the late Kenzie and Della Trader. She graduated from Chester High School in 1947.
In May of 1949, Evelyn married Bill, and together they built a life filled with love and family until his passing in 1999.
She is survived by her son, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Vicky, of Hockessin, DE; three grandchildren, Lindsay (Santiago), Andrew (Emma), and Will; and her very special great-granddaughter, Sofia.
Evelyn worked for 25 years at Wilmington Trust, retiring in 1991. Though she wasn’t a bank president, her polished appearance, warmth, and smile certainly added value to the Greenville branch. Outside of work, she enjoyed spending time with friends, bowling, playing cards, growing roses, traveling, and, most of all, being with her grandchildren.
A service celebrating Evelyn’s life will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Evelyn’s memory to the Kutz Senior Living Campus or the Humane Animal Partners.
