Doris Barkley Powell peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 13, 2025. She was born in Wilmington, DE on October 9, 1928.
She was a loving mother of four children, C. Creadick Powell Jr. and his wife Janet, Dwayne F. Powell and his wife Teresa, Lou Ann Powell and partner Vaughn Badson and David B. Powell and his wife Kathy. She was also a loving grandmother and great grandmother.
Doris was married to her husband C. Creadick Powell Sr. for 72 years before his death in 2022. Together they owned and operated the Brandywine Terrace in Claymont, DE and the Brandywine Valley Caterers for many years.
Doris was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and spent many years worshiping at Saint Paul’s Methodist on Foulk Road since its opening in 1963. Doris enjoyed attending Bible studies and helping around the church.
There are many fond memories that Doris has left behind for her family to remember her by. Boating on the Chesapeake Bay, scout camps, caring for her grandchildren, and traveling are some of the activities she enjoyed.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Sr. and Elva Barkley, Debra D. Powell (daughter in law), James R. Barkley and Joseph A. Barkley Jr. (brothers).
A grateful thank you to Linda and Tibby (her caregivers) for taking such wonderful care of her, which allowed her to remain in her home until her passing.
A memorial service for Doris and Creadick will be held on October, 25th at 3 pm. at St Paul’s UMC. Interment will be private.
