Ernie Hall, 87, of Wilmington, DE, died August 2, 2025. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Ernie grew up in Albany, NY where he attended the Vincentian Institute (Class of 1956). After graduation, he returned to New Jersey where he continued his education, receiving his Bachelors of Science in Industrial Engineering from Rutgers University in 1960. From there, he moved to Charleston, SC where he joined the US Navy and served full time until 1963.
Following his discharge from active duty, Ernie returned to New York and transitioned to the US Naval Reserve, continuing his service until his retirement as Commander in 1985. During this time, he worked for Hercules Inc. in Glens Falls, NY as a Senior Industrial Engineer and continued his education, receiving his master’s degree in Management from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1972. In 1974, Ernie and his family moved to Wilmington, DE. His employment with Hercules continued, now as Principal Engineer in Solids Processing and Handling, a position he held until his retirement in 2007.
Ernie was a member of the Hercules Men’s Club, where he served as secretary and treasurer, and the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers. He also valued service to his community, serving in the Cardiff Civic Association, and in various roles within Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. An avid golfer, Ernie also held memberships and/or played at courses throughout northern Delaware, including the Hercules Country Club, Delaware National, Cavaliers, and Delcastle.
Ernie was predeceased by his wife, Jaclyn Ann; and son, Ken of Magnolia, DE. He is survived by his sons, Chuck of Millsboro, DE and Brian of Reading, PA; daughter, Kathy Testa (Joe) of Wilmington, DE; daughter-in-law, Sharyn of Lewes, DE; and grandchildren, Michael Hall of Lewes, DE, Sean and Stephen Hall of Reading, PA, and Maddy and Lindsey Testa of Wilmington, DE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803). Friends may call beginning at 1:00 p.m and are invited to join the family for a reception following Mass at the Ed Oliver Golf Club (800 N. DuPont Rd., Wilmington, DE 19807) from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial at All Saints Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
