Lynch, Nancy M.

Nancy Mellinger Lynch, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home at Maris Grove in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania on July 27, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 98 years old. Daughter of Chester A. and Louise (Armstrong) Mellinger, Nancy was born on June 12, 1927 and raised in Wilmington, Delaware.

After graduating from Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia, Nancy returned to Wilmington and in 1949 married the love of her life, William Lynch. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. They made their home in Carrcroft Crest, Wilmington, Delaware for over 50 years and spent their summers at their home in Ocean City, New Jersey where they shared their love for OC with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. The memories they created by the shore remain a lasting legacy of joy and love for her family.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, William Lynch (2009), her brother, Chester Allen Mellinger, Jr., and her nephew, Chester Allen Mellinger III. She is survived by her sons, William Jr. and his wife Debbie, Robert and his wife Pamela, and James and his wife Beth Ann, her grandchildren William III, Robb and his wife Elaina, Alex and his wife Paige, Daniel, and Michael, her great-grandchildren Brighton, Xavier, Riley, and Faith, her sister-in-law Ellen Friar, and many nieces and nephews.

A woman of deep Christian faith, Nancy was a steadfast supporter of the churches to which she belonged throughout her life. Her devotion to her faith and her community was a guiding light to those who knew her.

Nancy’s kindness, quiet strength, and enduring faith will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, August 5th at 11am at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home at 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.A service will follow at noon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions to the Sunday Breakfast Mission (500 W. 2nd St. Wilmington, DE 19801) are requested.
