Theodore R. Weaver Sr., affectionately known as “Ted,” passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, in Wilmington, Delaware, at the age of 90.
Born in New Columbus, Pennsylvania, Ted moved to Wilmington, DE in 1955, where he built a life rooted in service, faith, and family. He was the beloved husband of Marion V. Weaver for 59 years, until her passing on July 12, 2013.
Ted began his firefighting journey with the Elsmere Fire Department and went on to become a life member of Mill Creek Fire Company, Stations 2 & 21. Throughout the years, he held numerous positions on the Board of Directors and was a respected member of the fire service community. His dedication will be honored with a fireman’s funeral.
He was a highly regarded oil burner mechanic, known throughout the area for his skill and reliability. Ted worked for A.H. Angersteins, Gulf Oil, and A.I. duPont Hospital. Anyone who knew him knew they could count on him for help—he was just a phone call away.
Ted’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a dedicated servant of the Lord, faithfully attending services every Sunday and many Wednesday evenings, most recently at Faith Baptist Church in Wilmington, DE.
In his younger years, Ted enjoyed card games with friends at the firehouse. Later in life, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who became the center of his world.
He is survived by his children: Ted Weaver Jr. (Cathy) and Denise Fisher (Brian); grandchildren: Carey Weaver, Nikki Mohr (Steve), Kevin Weaver (Lauren), Crystal Milligan (Paul), Amanda Yocum (Wes), and Adrienne Milligan (Kayla); and great-grandchildren: William, Savanah, Isabella, Trooper, Keaton, Vaughn, Ben and Cecilia.
He is also survived by his brothers Marlin Weaver and Vic Weaver (Janet); sister Valeria Kishbaugh (Jerry); and his companion of the last 10 years, Virginia Hanthorne.
