Walter Schoenleber, age 95, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, died peacefully at home on July 15, 2025.
Walter is the son of the late Wilhelm and Emma (Schmid) Schoenleber. He was born in Chester, Pennsylvania in 1930, and graduated from Chester High School in 1948. He attended Drexel University, graduating in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. After his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army in 1961, Walter moved to Parlin, New Jersey where he would meet his wife of 63 years, Joan (Ballon) Schoenleber.
Walter, Joan and their 2 children, Walter and Amy, moved four times for work assignments with DuPont Photo Products and Data Processing, eventually coming to reside in Wilmington, Delaware. All of the family members remained in Delaware for over 50 years until Walter and Joan moved to Maris Grove in Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania, in 2016.
Walter cherished spending time with his family. Walter and Joan traveled yearly to the Outer Banks with their young children, and in later years, their 2 grandchildren would eagerly join them. Walter was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church and he coordinated cemetery burials there for many years. He worked for DuPont for 35 years in Photo Products. He was stationed in Korea while enlisted in the U. S. Army. Walter loved to watch and talk sports, and he participated enthusiastically in a football pool each season. Nevertheless, being an accountant, there was not a day that Walter didn’t balance his check book and monitor his investments. He once discovered a three dollar discrepancy.
Walter is survived by his son, Walter J. Schoenleber, and his daughter, Amy S. Gutowski, as well as Walter’s wife Amy, Amy’s fiancé Gregg Zoarski, and his granddaughters Alexis and Nicole Gutowski, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Gertrude Warwick.
A visitation will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 4900 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware 19803 on Tuesday, July 22, at 10:00 AM followed by services at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place privately.
