Leedy, William R.

William R. Leedy, 71, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in West Virginia, William spent much of his life there before eventually settling in Delaware. He remained closely connected to both places, living between them during different chapters of his life.

William was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He worked hard, lived simply, and loved deeply. A skilled painter by trade, he took pride in his work during his many years with the Wilmington Housing Authority.

He was also an avid sports fan who took great pride in cheering on West Virginia University. His loyalty extended to his Philly teams as well—especially the Eagles and Phillies. Game days were a source of excitement, joy, and connection.

Above all, William was proud to be “Papaw” to his grandson, Owen—a role that brought him immeasurable happiness. His strength, deep love, and the memories he created will live on through all who knew him.

He is survived by his son, Sean Leedy, daughter-in-law Kristin, grandson Owen, many cousins and extended family, and countless dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service to honor William’s life will be held on Friday, July 11, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life reception will be held afterward at the Brandywine Club in Claymont, DE.
