Alice E. Catron (née Kauffman), age 90, of Wilmington, DE died at home July 6, 2025 after a long illness. She was born November 3, 1934 in Linwood, PA to the late Gilbert and Minnie Kauffman and was raised by her grandparents, Jacob and Catherine Kauffman, on Bethel Road in Boothwyn, PA.
Alice spent her entire career in healthcare. She started working at Wilmington General Hospital in 1960 and during her tenure there attended and graduated from both the Nursing School of Wilmington (1968) and Wilmington University (1980). When that hospital closed in 1985, she transferred to Christiana Care where she worked as a nursing supervisor/coordinator until her retirement in 1996.
In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and counter cross-stitching.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur J. Catron, Sr.; stepson, James B. Catron, Sr.; and grandson, Brian Catron. She is survived by her sons, John Lenik (Carol) of NC and Wilbur J. Catron, Jr. of DE; daughter, Carol Kennie (Bob) of IN; stepdaughter, Nancy Ayers of PA; sisters, Jacqueline M. Thomas of PA, and Jean E. Hopkins of DE; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A service for Alice will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808). Friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Easter Seals of Delaware.
