Barbara Ann Boyer Breisch, 77, of Claymont, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with lymphoma.
Born to the late James H. and Louise M. Boyer (née Young) on July 30, 1947, Barbara was the eldest of three siblings. She was a 1965 graduate of William Allen High School in Allentown, PA. While she spent most of her adult life in Delaware, she was grateful to spend her final months in the loving care of her daughter, Melanie, and family in West Chester, PA.
Barbara was a dedicated member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington for over 53 years, where she sang in the choir, served on the altar guild, and gave her time generously in many other roles within the congregation. Her faith was a guiding light in her life.
Upon retiring after over 30 years from Ashland (formerly Hercules/Aqualon) in 2012, Barbara embraced the hobbies she loved most—quilting, knitting, cross-stitching, and reading. She had a deep appreciation for music, amassing a playlist of over 580 songs spanning 32 hours, with everything from the Beach Boys to Buffett and Bon Jovi. When out and about, if a familiar song came on, she’d grin and say, “That one’s on my playlist!”
Barbara had a keen interest in genealogy and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a fan of the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Harry Potter movies; classic stories she never tired of watching.
Barbara followed Philadelphia sports passionately, especially the Phillies and Eagles, and cherished outings to Citizens Bank Park with her grandchildren. Two of her favorite memories include the 2008 World Series Parade and 2018 Super Bowl Parade which she was able to enjoy with her daughter and grandson Billy.
Above all, Barbara was a devoted mother, Nana, sister, and friend. Her family was the center of her world, and she was always present—whether it was cheering from the sidelines, babysitting the grand-puppies, or enjoying ice cream outings. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, never missing a chance to share a story or photo.
Barbara’s laughter, warmth, and unshakable spirit made her unforgettable to all who knew her. She brought joy, kindness, and a beautiful light into every room.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Hicks (née Breisch), her son-in-law, Bill, and her four beloved grandchildren: Billy, Bobby, Maddie, and Michael. She is also survived by her brothers, David Boyer (Susan) and Dick Boyer (Michelle), along with several nieces and nephews, and a cherished extended family of in-laws.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 501 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM. The service will also be streamed via youtube.com/@stmarksonline. In honor of Barbara’s vibrant personality and lifelong team spirit, guests are invited to wear Phillies or Eagles gear and kindly asked to refrain from wearing black. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunday Breakfast Mission or the St. Mark’s Organ fund in Barbara’s memory.
Barbara’s life was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will live on in every smile, every song, and every stitch of love she left behind.
