Robert L. Thomas, Sr. (“Bob”), 74, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, after a life richly lived in love and kindness.
Born on January 11, 1951, Bob was a longtime resident of Wilmington, Delaware. He had a deep knowledge of many subjects and loved to share his thoughts and stories. Bob married the love of his life, Kathy, on May 17, 1976. He earned his GED from James H. Groves High School Wilmington Center on May 29, 1986.
Bob worked for AMETEK/HAVEG Division for 27 years as a Bridge Operator, a role he took great pride in. He later worked at AVS, LLC for 17 years, retiring in 2023. While employed at AMETEK/HAVEG, he also worked part-time as a security guard, and once had the honor of guarding American country singer Johnny Paycheck.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathy; his sons, Ryan and Jeffrey; and his cherished grandson, Brenden. He is also survived by his in-laws: Paul W. Murphy (Sandi), Nancy K. Swayne (Joe); nephew, Joseph Swayne, Jr. (Sarah); niece, Brenda Lang (Travis); great-nephews, Connor, Lil Travis, and Glenn; and great-nieces, Lydia and Bethany.
Bob was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church. He will be fondly remembered for his deep love for his family, his generous wisdom, and his quiet strength. Bob had a passion for historical reenactments and was an avid collector. He was a devoted fan of all things Baltimore—especially the Ravens and the Orioles.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, especially Dr. Jamil Khatri, as well as the dedicated team at Christiana Care for their compassionate support.
A funeral service be held on June 26, 2025, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at All Saints Cemetery
