Zuchowski, Marilyn

Marilyn Zuchowski, beloved sister, daughter, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away at the age of 85 in Wilmington, DE on June 9, 2025. Born on October 25, 1939, in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Stanley and Margaret (née Resko) Zuchowski.

Marilyn graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School in East Orange, NJ, and continued her education at St. Mary’s Nursing School, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to care and service. She pursued her passion for nursing with further studies at Catholic University and New York University. Her dedication to healthcare was evident throughout her career — first as a visiting nurse in Newark, NJ, and later as the Executive Director at Somerset Valley VNA. Her commitment to her patients was reflected in every interaction and will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps.

Marilyn was not only a dedicated professional but also an active and engaged member of her community. A proud member of the Rotary Club of Somerset Hills, NJ, she believed in giving back and building strong community connections.

She was a one-of-a-kind individual. Known for her strong will and colorful language, Marilyn was candid with her opinions and formed many long-lasting and memorable relationships. She enjoyed a dry martini, naming her cars, and the quirky companionship of her ceramic dog, Henry. Patience was not her strong suit, and “easygoing” was not her approach to life — but she was a meaningful and steady presence in the lives of her four nieces and nephews, whom she cared for every weekend. She gifted each of them a named car upon turning 17.

If she wasn’t birdwatching on Chincoteague Island, Marilyn was likely golfing. She cherished sunny days on the green — and let’s be honest, in the sand traps — always surrounded by friends, family, laughter, and the occasional salty word. In Myrtle Beach, where she spent over 20 years in retirement, she made new friends and welcomed loved ones to join her on the golf course, at the beach, or for strolls along Murrells Inlet.

Marilyn shared a special bond with her identical twin, Marge. Together they enjoyed summer trips to Manasquan, travels across Europe, and catching a Mets game at every National League stadium in the country. A lifelong fan of her beloved New York Mets — “dem bums” — she proudly cheered them on, win or lose.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Margaret Zuchowski, and her brother-in-law, Robert Flynn. Their memories remained etched in her heart and shaped the loving, devoted sister and aunt she became. Marilyn’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the many healthcare workers who provided exceptional care and kindness throughout her life. Their attention, compassion, and shared laughter over her singing and delightful (albeit repetitive) jokes brought light to her days — for which the family is eternally grateful.

In accordance with Marilyn’s wishes, a private funeral service will be held for family and close friends.

As we remember Marilyn Zuchowski, let us celebrate a life lived with passion, humor, and service. Her memory will continue to touch the lives of all who knew her. Rest in peace, Marilyn — you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
