Hone, Olga F.

December 9, 1930 - June 8, 2025

Olga F. Hone, age 94, of Wilmington, Delaware, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Born and raised in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, Olga was the daughter of Carmen (Gonzalez) and Luis R. Flores. She earned an associate degree from the University of Puerto Rico and later studied English at the University of Indiana, working toward her Bachelor’s Degree. Olga began her career as an administrative assistant at the U.S. Naval Base in Puerto Rico, where she met the love of her life, Roger F. Hone, Jr. Olga worked as a multilingual administrative assistant at DuPont for over 20 years before her retirement.

Olga was passionate about giving back to her community. She volunteered at the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, and at the Latin American Community Center in Wilmington. Her most cherished volunteer work was with the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation, where she served as the founding Secretary of the Board—both Olga and Roger were proud “Old Salts” of the ship.

A lifelong learner, Olga enjoyed studying at the Academy for Lifelong Learning. Never one to sit still, Olga loved to spend time shopping, antiquing, playing bridge, socializing, fine dining, gift giving, or dancing. Her favorite time of day was Happy Hour (Salud!) and always was up for some mischief. Her warmth, wit, and zest for life touched everyone she met. Her greatest joy was making others happy.

Her beloved husband of 66 years, Roger F. Hone, Jr., passed away in 2020. Olga is survived by her two children, Elizabeth Hone (Keith Aronson) of Delaware and Roger F. Hone III (Sabine Kage) of Germany; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.

The family suggests donations in Olga’s memory be made to the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation, 1124 E. 7th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 (www.signup82north.com/kalmarnyckel/donate/) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, www.stjude.org
