Richard P. Ross of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at the age of 90.
Richard (“Dick”) was born and raised in Delaware, son of the late Irvin and Marie (Murray) Ross. After graduating from PS Dupont High School in 1952 he enlisted in the US Army where he served as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal specialist. When he returned from the service he began his long career with the Dupont Company as a Chemical Technician, retiring in 1992.
After marrying his sweetheart, Edna Mary Manley, Richard and Edna raised 4 children. For many years he enjoyed participating in Barbershop singing organizations, playing golf, the Jersey shore, Philadelphia sports, and singing Frank Sinatra songs at any Karaoke opportunity, and spending time at the Delaware Veterans Post #1. Along with his brothers, he owned the Hideaway Lounge for a few years. But his happiest moments were spent with his seven beloved grandchildren.
Richard is survived by three children, Rich (Christine), Scott (Deanne), and Matthew (Amy) Ross; two siblings, Bill (Mazie) and Dave (Beverly); seven grandchildren, Katie, Shannon, Hallie, Max, Patrick, Eden and Emma, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna, his daughter Sheila, and three siblings, Irvin, Marie, and Connie.
Visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday May 27that Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19810. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00. Burial will follow at St Joseph on the Brandywine cemetery in Wilmington, DE.
