Brown, Joan E.

Joan E. Brown, age 88, of Wilmington, Delaware died on Friday, May 16, 2025 in the Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had received care since September. Born January 26, 1937, Joan was one of seven children of the late Garland and Ruby Edwards.

She graduated from A. I. DuPont High School after her family moved north from Virginia. In 1955, she married Kenneth H. Brown and began a married life dedicated to each other and to Christ. Joan was a devoted Christian who cherished her Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Over the years, her Christian ministry consisted of prayer partnerships and Bible studies as well as teaching Sunday school, visiting nursing homes, singing in the choir, attending national conferences, and visiting Israel. Her work culminated in the 20-year leadership of the New Castle County Association of Evangelicals Prayer Breakfast, which met each month to create a network of prayerful support and fellowship among various local ministries. In addition to her beloved husband Kenneth.

Joan was preceded in death by her cherished daughter Cheryl Ann who died in childhood and dear brothers G.A. and Kent. She is survived by her beloved son Kenneth H. Brown, Jr., her “angels”: granddaughter Melissa C. McDonald and husband Alex, great grandson Logan Jack, and grandson Chad K. Brown, as well as her devoted sister Barbara Esper and dear brothers Blake, Dean, and Keith Edwards.

Visitation will be held from 10-11am on Tuesday May 20 followed by a service at 11am at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington 19808. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.
