Gary L. Scheib, 71, of Wilmington DE departed for heaven on the morning of May 9, 2025, after a sudden illness. He is joyfully reunited with his parents, Dale and Winnie Scheib, along with his grandparents, his dogs, and other beloved relatives.
Gary was born on July 9, 1953, in Lykens, PA. He grew up and lived in Wilmington, DE, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He also spent much of his life in Tower City, PA, with family while enjoying the beauty of Gold Mine Mountain.
He graduated from Conrad High School in 1971 as a proud Redskin alum. In 1973 he began working at the Newark Post Office, where he built strong connections with customers and colleagues. He worked there for 36 years, retiring in 2009. He then dedicated his days to his family, his dogs, and the great outdoors.
On June 15, 1985, Gary married his wife, Ellen Jane Clark. He became a loving stepfather to two children and welcomed their daughter on July 11, 1986—just two days after his own birthday. Gary and Ellen shared 40 years filled with love, memories, and a beautiful family.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman. From a young age, he learned to hunt and fish with his father and grandfather. Throughout his life, he cherished time spent outside. He loved to fish and hunt, dedicating most of his life to it. He would have his deer meat butchered to provide meals for friends and family, and generously donated to local shelters. In the spring, he tended a beautiful flower garden and planted tomatoes each year, always sharing his harvest with loved ones and neighbors.
Gary loved watching The Sopranos, MASH, Clint Eastwood films, and Toby Keith music videos. The Beatles were also one of his favorites.
He was a proud and devoted “Pappy” to nine grandchildren—and to many of their friends as well. He loved spending time with them, teaching them all he could about nature and the outdoors. Continuing family traditions with his grandchildren brought him immense joy and was extremely important to him. One of his favorite pastimes was taking them fishing. He also cherished the family’s annual vacations to Rehoboth Beach.
Gary is survived by his wife, Ellen; his brother, Dennis; his three children, Timothy Frieze II (Diane), Rachel Alicea (Pedro), and Heather Lewicki (John); and nine grandchildren, Bradley (Olivia), Adriana (Jake), Andres, Sophia, Jaxin, Giselle, Gavin, Shane, and Vaeda. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.
Gary’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed until we meet again.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life, and appreciates all of your love and prayers during this time.
