Benjamin B. Briscoe III, age 80, of Claymont, Delaware, formerly of Chester Pennsylvania, died on May 2nd, at Chester County Hospital.
Ben was an avid sports fan, and a fierce competitor. He enjoyed playing golf, pool, poker, shuffleboard, baseball and basketball and competed in many leagues. Following his retirement from IBM, he became an active member of Delaware Veterans Post 1 in Wilmington, Delaware. Ben had a jovial spirit and was most often seen with a mug in one hand, a cigar in another, and a ready and welcoming smile on his face. He loved to engage in long conversations with anyone who would sit and listen. He especially loved to sit and eat crabs, surrounded by his family.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Sadie Briscoe of Chester, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sylvia Briscoe, as well as by his son, Brian Briscoe, his stepchildren, Judy Zeigler and Mike Groves, Jamey and Bonita Zeigler, and two grandsons, Michael Groves and Tyler Zeigler. Additionally, he is survived by his sister Bonnie Briscoe- Blacklock, two nieces, Rebecca and Amanda, and several cousins.
A viewing will be held on Monday, May 12, from 10-11 am at The Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19803, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808
