Robert H. “Bob” McQuale, 84, passed away at home in Wilmington, DE surrounded by his family on April 16, 2025. Bob was born on June 28, 1940 in Middletown, DE. Growing up Bob was a proud Boy Scout and enjoyed the camping trips as well as a special train trip to California that included a stop at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico at the age of 12.
Bob lived a life of service and dedication to the Lord from a young age that continued throughout his life simply by the way he lived it and enjoyed sharing the Bible with everyone. He was very active in his church at Brandywine Valley and helped out in any way he could over the last 27 years, including being an usher, volunteering in the nursery, helping out in the church office, assisting in the upkeep of the sanctuary and landscaping on occasion.
Bob graduated from William Penn High School in 1958. Following his graduation from high school, he attended Wesley College and George Washington University. Bob proudly served his country as a Military Policeman in the Army from 1963 to 1965 in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Bob was employed with DuPont following college and the Army for 37 years until his retirement in 2002.
Bob loved working outside, gardening or keeping up the lawn, loved his cars and enjoyed being “Bob the Builder” for projects around his own house as well as others when needed. He loved to travel with his wife Janet and gave us so many good memories of family vacations and trips.
A wonderful man of integrity, dedication, loyalty and compassion, Bob would make lifelong friends with all he met after a simple conversation or a sharing of stories. He never met a stranger. Bob was very proud of his family and loved spending time with them every chance he got. Bob was preceded in death by Leona McQuale, his son Gary and parents Harry and Kathleen McQuale.
Bob is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Janet; sister Lynn (Mike); daughters Jessie, Carol (Mike), Sharon and son Tom (Patrice). He had 11 grandchildren, Blake (Catherine), Brian (Chelsea), Keighley (AJ), Shelly (Sam), Kevin (Carlie), Kyle (Katie), Brett, Aleksey, Garrett, Gabby (Jared) and Sierra in addition to 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, aids, therapists and Compassionate Care Hospice employees for caring so deeply about Bob and taking such good care of him.
