It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Unkart Kelly, 73, of Newark. She passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, after a courageous 3-year battle with lung cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Linda was a woman whose kindness, unwavering devotion, and radiant spirit touched the lives of so many.
Linda’s warmth and loyalty were unmatched. She dedicated her life to her family, friends, and the countless relationships she nurtured over the years. She found great joy in spending time with loved ones and creating meaningful traditions, including trips to New York City, the Amish Country, and the beach. She also founded the treasured “Cousins’ Lunch,” bringing family together for laughter, conversation, and the comfort of shared moments.
Linda was a member of the Delaware Saengerbund and looked forward to the annual crab feast. She was an avid crafter, creating many beautiful projects that she shared with family and friends.
Professionally, Linda devoted 32 years to the University of Delaware, working as a claims adjuster for the athletic team and later in Human Resources. Her dedication and work ethic left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the university community.
Those who knew Linda will remember her for her witty sense of humor, her generous heart and her contagious laughter. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched.
In her passing, she will be reunited with her beloved husband, Jack (John), with whom she shared 42 wonderful years that were filled with love, music, and joy. Her home was further brightened by the companionship of her two beloved dogs, Zack and Zoey, who brought her endless happiness.
Linda is survived by her beloved son Steven Dawson (Robyn) and grandchildren, Megan, Dallas(Allison), Jake(Taylor) and great granddaughter Scottie Mae. Son Brian (Amber) and grandchildren Brian, Lexi and Lily. Stepdaughter Judy Trammell (Rob) and grandson Baylee. Her brother John Unkart (Laure) and nephews John and Christopher and many cousins. She will “love you all forever”.
She is also survived by her dear friends, neighbors, and extended family- all of whom were blessed to be a part of her life and stood by her through her journey.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and neighbors who provided Linda with kindness, care, and support during her final years.
The family would also like to thank the staff of Delaware Hospice and Bayada Home Healthcare for their compassion and care over the past months.
Thank you, Linda, for watching over us now. May you rest in peace, knowing you are deeply loved and will forever be missed.
A visitation from 10-11am with a memorial service at 11am will be held on Saturday March 15, 2025 at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, 19808. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society or Delaware Hospice.
