Hojnicki, Edward

Edward, Hojnicki, Jr. (10/17/54 – 4/4/24)

It is with profound sadness, but with hope in the Resurrection of Christ, that we announce the peaceful passing of Edward Hojnicki, Jr. on the morning of April 4, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, cousin, and cherished friend. Ed’s extended family consisted of the many lives he touched in his many decades of fire service. Whether it be the Volunteer Fire Service, or his 36 years with the Wilmington Fire Department where he retired as a Battalion Chief, or after retirement the many years teaching at the Delaware State Fire school.

Ed was a faithful Orthodox Christian and a lifelong and faithful member of St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church in Wilmington, where he served on just about every committee, especially maintaining the Building and Grounds of the parish.

He was born on October 17, 1954 and lived in New Castle for the early parts of his life, and in the city of Wilmington as a requirement for the fire service. He later settled in New Castle where he enjoyed retirement surrounded by family. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 47 years Karen Holowatch Hojnicki, His mother Stephanie Hojnicki, his children Ana Wennberg (Willam) of Wilmington, Fr. Timothy Hojnicki (Anastasia) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Leah Reed (Christopher) of Middletown, his 10 grandchildren, two siblings Leon Hojnicki (Georgia) of Burke, VA, and Christine Roberts (David) of New Castle, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by His father, Edward Sr. (+2003) and a granddaughter Katerina (+2009). The family would like to extend special thanks to Delaware Hospice for the wonderful and attentive care given to Ed during his final days.

A viewing will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church (2300 W. Huntington Dr. Wilmington, DE 19808) on Monday, April 8 from 1-3:00 pm and then again from 5-7:00 pm with a Panakhida (Memorial Service) at 7:00 pm. Another viewing will take place on April 9, at 10-11:00 am, with the Orthodox Funeral Service to be held at 11:00 am. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery following.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church in memory of Edward.

The family asks for the prayers of all, and that the kingdom of Heaven be his, and that Edward’s memory be eternal!
